Discover the Swabian Alb and the surrounding area

Metzingen is located at the foot of the Swabian Alb, not far from Reutlingen and Tübingen and only half an hour’s drive from Stuttgart. The location on the low mountain range, which stretches from Stuttgart to Switzerland, enables a wide range of leisure activities in the middle of beautiful nature or in an urban environment, because at the same time many attractive cities are easily accessible, making a holiday in the Swabian Alb worthwhile in many ways.

In addition to the Outletcity Metzingen, there are many other places in Swabia that are worth a visit.

Schwäbische Alb

Metzingen and its wine region

If you don’t want to leave Metzingen during your holiday in the Swabian Alb, then you can, for example, use the Wine educational trail. On an informative, 2.7km long wine trail through the vineyard, you can feel nature and experience the beautiful landscape of the Swabian Alb up close. Metzingen also has great opportunities for hiking. The Gustav-Ströhmfeld-Weg, one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Swabian Alb, begins at the train station in Metzingen and climbs steeply through the vineyards to the panoramic path on the Metzinger vineyard, up to magnificent views of the mighty Hohenneuffen castle ruins. The Gustav-Ströhmfeld-Weg has a total length of 22km.

Explore Bad Urach

Bad Urach is only a few kilometers away from Metzingen and has a lot to offer: In the middle of the beautiful Maisental on the outskirts of Bad Urach is probably the most beautiful waterfall in the Swabian Alb. The karst spring plunges from a height of 37m into the depths in free fall and then runs another 50m over a steep, mossy limestone cushion down into the valley. There is another waterfall on the site of the former Güterstein monastery in Bad Urach. There are also the Grafensteig premium hiking trails, which can be found as circular hiking trails in the most beautiful places in Bad Urach. Wasserfallsteig, Hohenurachsteig, Hochbergsteig, Hohenwittlingensteig and Seeburgsteig are the names of the individual Grafensteig. What all the paths have in common is that they have a sporty character and they lure you up to the Alb plateau. Bad Urach is also home to the Albthermen – one of the most beautiful and traditional baths in Europe. There you can bathe in the purest thermal mineral water in 6 different pools and enjoy 7 different sauna and sweat attractions in a separate sauna world.

Reutlingen & Tübingen

The Naturkundemuseum Reutlingen offers four floors A modernly restored half-timbered house from 1728 provides an insight into the nature of the region with its landscapes, its flora and fauna, its geological subsoil and its geological past. A visit to the Swabian city of Tübingen is always worth it. There you can, for example, visit Hohentübingen Castle from the 16th century and enjoy the view of the Neckar and Ammer valleys, the city and the surrounding area. You can discover the historic old town on a city tour through the science city or follow the traces of Jewish life. You can also gondola along the picturesque old town on a punting boat.

Trip to Stuttgart

Stuttgart, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, is only about a 30-minute drive from Metzingen and has countless cultural attractions to offer. If you are on holiday in Swabia, you should definitely visit the Kessel once. In the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, which opened in 1843, you can see paintings from the end Marvel at the Middle Ages and sculptures from the 19th century onwards. A visit to the Porsche Museum and the Mercedes-Benz Museum is not only worthwhile for those interested in cars. There you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the history of these two automobile manufacturers and can look at a variety of exhibits. The Wilhelma Stuttgart is the only zoological-botanical garden in Germany and is unique in the world thanks to the unique combination of animal park, botanical garden and historical park. Pure action and relaxation, sea of flowers and water features, observation tower and milk bar – the Killesberg Stuttgart High Park is also a wonderful destination for the whole family. Another excursion destination in Stuttgart is Solitude Palace, which is considered Duke Carl Eugen’s most sophisticated and personal creation. The architectural ensemble was built on a panoramic height on the edge of Stuttgart and offers a wonderful view north towards Ludwigsburg.
